Steven Paul Tischer, 61 of Midland, passed away November 22, 2016. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, November 25, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. Graveside will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Steven was born February 23, 1955 in Swindon, England to H.T. Tischer and Gloria Jean Tischer. He married Sharon Shoemaker on August 3, 1974 in Richardson, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science in geosciences from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1979 and his master's degree in geology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2000. He began his career as a petroleum geologist with Coastal Oil & Gas Corp. in Midland, Texas in 1979, transitioning into environmental geology in the early 1990s. Steven became environmental manager for Parker & Parsley Petroleum, which merged with Mesa Petroleum in 1998 to become Pioneer Natural Resources USA, Inc. He rejoined the environmental consulting ranks in 1998, where he served as associate vice president for Arcadis then returned to the oil industry in 2012 when he moved to his current position with ConocoPhillips. He was a registered professional geologist in Texas and Wyoming, and a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Petroleum Engineers and the West Texas Geological Society. He was published five times on water resource, groundwater remediation and oil well blowout restoration. He received the Gordon I. Atwater Award in 2001 for his poster on an oil well blowout emergency response, natural resource damage assessment, restoration and remediation project in south Louisiana.Steven was an amazing, outgoing, and loving man who was always ready with a kind word and always more interested in the other person than he was talking about himself. He was Papaw to his five grandchildren and would do anything for his family and grandchildren who were first in his life. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and trips and vacation with his family.Steven is survived by his wife Sharon Tischer of Midland; son, Matt Tischer and wife, Jennifer of Midland; their daughters, Brylee and Bella Tischer; son, Adam Tischer and wife, Cacy Tischer of Colleyville, TX; their children, Addison, Reese and Luke Tischer; father, H.T. Tischer; brother, Brian Tischer of Dallas, TX; brother, Greg Tischer and wife, Kathy of Austin, TX; sister, Renee Adams and husband, David of North Palm Beach, FL; sister, Melanie Swan and husband, Grady of St. Cloud, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.He is preceded in death by his mother, Jean Tischer.
